I love starting my day with a smoothie. At one point in my life, I could not imagine making a statement like that. Never would I dream of rolling out of bed without having a soda or two, chips, and/or donuts for breakfast. My attitude for the day was determined by how quickly I could get my body its caffeine fix. If I waited too long the “grumps” would set in for the day and nothing could snap me out of my irritable state.
Today, I avoid soda and processed foods altogether. I feel liberated knowing that I am no longer being held hostage by my body’s addiction to caffeine and empty calories. Instead, my body craves nutrients. I have noticed that the better I eat, the more it operates like a well oiled machine.
A smoothie is a great vessel to start my day off right with a quick boost of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They are a great source of fiber since you are not throwing away the pulp as you do in juicing.
There are so many different ways to liven up a smoothie and to boost its nutritional value. You can add fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, powders, healthy fats….really whatever you have on hand. I love experimenting with my smoothie creations.
Today I made a Clementine Carrot Smoothie. Because it turned out so delicious I wanted to share the recipe with you guys. It was the perfect balance of the earthy carrot juice and the sweet/tropical flavors of the clementines, mango, and pineapple.
I added a small bit of ginger and chia, flax, and hemp hearts. This combination resulted in a delicious easy breakfast that boosted my body with:
- Loads of Antioxidants
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids
- Complete Plant Protein
- Heart Healthy Fats
- Lignans that protect against BC
- Natural anti-inflammatory properties
All of this in one glass and what’s even better is that smoothies are very energizing. Drinking a smoothie in the morning gives me the perfect amount of energy to be able to workout and do what I need to do before lunchtime.
