I absolutely love summer time grilling. For me, that is what really signifies that summer has arrived. When I first changed to a plant based diet, I really struggled in the summer. Every event or gathering included tasty smelling grilled meats and even sitting in my backyard was a tease because I could smell the delicious flavors coming from the neighbors’ grills.
While the smells were tempting, unfortunately eating the food was not an option. Meat prepared on the grill is dangerous because cooking meat at high temperatures creates chemical compounds which have been linked with causing some cancers. Reducing carcinogens is the name of the game in my house, so it is just another reason for me to avoid it altogether.
These days, I have found that eliminating meat from my diet does not mean I have to forego grilling, nor do I have to settle for just eating plain grilled vegetables.
